How did you discover and start collaborating with The Break?

I actually stumbled into the Break when I was walking around the neighborhood a year ago. There was a sign for $30 jeans and rosé. I was sold. I then met Hannah a little while ago through our mutual friend and we immediately hit it off.

Tell us a little bit about your work. How did you get involved in photography?

I remember my parents got me a Canon Powershot in middle school and I immediately plunged into a hole of super corny photographs (think supermacro black and white photo with a bright yellow daisy). The flower picture phase fully ran its course and I started to think more about what I was trying to relay in a photograph and less about the logistics of the camera. I started to get really excited by the photos I wasn't already expecting to see when I got back a roll of film. I love a good awkward moment. I try to mix in that sense of impromptu humor with ideas I've been obsessing over in my work.

Where/when do you feel the most inspired?

I feel the most inspired when I'm traveling or scanning film. I like to be out of my element and traveling to new places, no matter how close or far, it always helps jumpstart that feeling. I also get way too excited when I'm scanning film. Most of the time there will be a totally unexpected photo that kick starts a new train of thought and gets me going.

Who are you at the party?

Usually the girl with the camera and knee-jerk dance moves. Sometimes the girl asleep in the corner. Always the girl with the snacks.

Describe your personal style:

Lots of patterns. Lots of polka dots. I love a bold print.

What was your favorite moment from HalloQueen? Overall impression?

Definitely the runway contest. Top highlights were:

  1. A toilet roll unicorn horn is brilliant

  2. Sour candies can really disintegrate into your drink

  3. I must be getting old because I cannot handle my sugar like I used to

  4. Hannah knows how to throw a party

Favorite place to shoot in New York City?

Any of my friend’s apartments. Bonus points if they have good natural light.

Best advice anyone has ever given you?

To believe my own bullshit and not over think things too much. I think we all spend too much time over-analyzing.

What does success mean to you?

Is it bad that the first word association I have with ‘success’ is ‘baguette’? I’m a bit of a bread fanatic and a baguette is the quintessential on-the-go/never-a-bad-time-for-it type of bread. To me success just means self-satisfaction and growth, not ever reaching a standstill.

Tell us a secret?

My entire family thinks I’m balding. My grandpa has chased me around the house trying to crack an egg on my head.

Favorite image you took at HalloQueen?

Definitely this photo [of Benny, pictured left]. I might be a bit biased because it was my favorite costume by far (Hilary Duff wearing the inflatable igloo dress in the Lizzie McGuire Movie!) but he’s just giving such good face. I love a good closeup.
